Why K recruited J

Well it looks like in Men in Black 3 that it would make a lot of sense that K recruited J in the first place is because he saved him back in 1969, not because of the chase scene and the reason he didn't tell him is because he would know about it and probably mess up. Would that look right and anyone else agree?

I highly doubt the story for mib 3 have already been written in 1997

reply

Maybe not, but it is possible they could have added that in when writing MIB 3

reply

It depends on how time travel works in MIB3. I haven't seen the movie yet, so I'm not sure.

reply

I haven't seen MIB 3 yet, but J was recruited because the K's partner was an old man whose skills weren't the same. J was accepted after the testes in the MIB headquarters.

reply

I haven't seen MIB3 either but I was thinking J was recruited because of his skills as well at the place he had to do a test.

MIB3 establishes a more in depth non-conflicting reason for K to recruit J. It's a pretty fantastic scene actually...kinda touching...definitely get on watching it.

reply

It is possible yes.

I haven't seen Men in Black 3 yet, but hope to soon. However, I guess it really depends on how the MiB franchise thinks of time travel. If you think about it in one way, then we had not yet arrived to the events of MiB 3, so J had not yet gone back in time.

So, this would mean that K's life as an MiB agent proceeded as normal without J coming back from the future. Then, eventually, the events of the first movie took place.

Then, we get to the third movie, and J goes back in time ALTERING history, in that K now met J in the past because J traveled back in time.

Very confusing. LOL! But, I guess it all depends on how you decide to interpret the fictional logic of time travel... that is unless they do cover that in the third movie. Again... I haven't seen it yet.

MIB3 tried to be sweet and charming, how the two met again makes no sense...did K just that J would come across an alien so he could interrogate him?

reply

It was a time jump.

to me what Men in Black III established was that, in the first timeline(before J went back in time), K was saved by J's father and that moment when he met little J happened so he recruited him because his father was a hero, and had potential to join the organization, therefore he probably monitored J somehow throughout his life considering as a possible member for MIB based on what he saw in J's father.

The answer is for sure yes, while probably not originally written... The hippie guy who gives J the time travel device says to him in response to J mentioning a headache that he J had to have been where it was he was going, that also makes the dont talk bad about your dad comment from K earlier in the bar, but it was for sure that K had all along been watching and taking care of J and finally recruited him when he knew the time was right, that is how J forgives him at the end for not telling him and than he shows K the watch they share a look and J thanks him, the guy before was right though the scene is actually really touching and truthfully I almost cried, never thought a MIB movie would do that to me.

Near the end of MIB, K says something like 'I guess you weren't alive in 1968'. Wouldn't he know that he was about 5 years old then?

reply

Maybe K didn't mean "I guess you weren't alive" literally only metaphorically. It's cool that it makes you re-think things like that from the first one.

I agree with the other guy that said, MIB3 wasnt written when the 1st MIB was written, obviously. To me, MIB2 & MIB3 arent cannon. They are more like pointless spin-offs(made just for money) rather than real sequels. 2 & 3 both sucked anyway, at least the 2nd one had a lot of laughs, but the 3rd just flat out sucked!!!! I have no idea how MIB3 has 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, thats ridiculous, those critics must be high.

So yeah, I ignore the time stuff in the 3rd one, cuz that wasnt written when the 1st one was written & it just doesnt fit at all. So Kay only recruited Jay for chasing the alien & being b@dass. MIB1 should have just been a stand alone movie. Bringing back Kay in the sequels ruins everything in the 1st movie, UGH!

i thought it was yet another government agency that was hiring based on race. they needed to fill a quota so J had to be recruited.
