Why did they listen to Nick???

So after the Ingen group takes a break Ludlow gets up and says time to move on. Nobody listens to him and they just stay seated ignoring him. Then Nick get up and says "alright guys lets get the hell out of here" and they all jump up ready to go.

WHY???!
Why would the men listen to and have more respect for the guy who sabotaged their camp, probably caused several injuries and put all their lives in danger?

And why wouldn't they listen to Ludlow their paying employer who at the point had been professional and competent during their mission so far.

I don't get it?! I guess the scene was suppose to show that Ludlow didn't have the respect of his employees and more for Nick but nothing shown would support why. If anything Ludlow should have been shown having guys guard Nick from being hurt of killed by the other men.

I think it was for a bit of humor and also to show just how little authority Ludlow had over the Ingen group.

reply

Yeah but it doesn't make any sense. I suppose to devalue Ludlow but in reality it makes next to zero sense that the men would listen to the guy who's chiefly responsible for all their misfortune and probably the deaths of many of their crew.

reply

Yeah it doesn't make sense and was only to make the 'evil' Ludlow look a fool.

Nick's a fucking tool himself, they wouldn't follow him anywhere.

He clearly hated them and what they stood for, they would have looked at him like "you gonna tell me when to move you greenie prick?"

Just one of many things that don't really make sense and are done for effect. There is no realistic reason based on what we've seen that they should ignore their boss and listen to the random new guy who half of them don't even know the name of, who yes, sabotaged their work. It's just to reiterate that Ludlow is sort of the bad guy in this. It's like how the velociraptor's levels of intelligence changes when it suits, or the noise of the approaching T-rex can either be non-existent or obvious, or how a car can be lifted a hundred feet in the air after an explosion. Lots of nonsense in the film done for dramatic effect.
