Anyone notice that the prostitute's name was "Elizabeth" and she was cut in two?

yeah...i thought it was a great tip of the hat to the kind of film noir feel that the whole flic had. the elizabeth short story is one that's been referenced to but has never been delt with directly, at least no that i have seen.

Can I ask what Elizabeth's being a prostitute sawed in half was a reference to? I'm not trying to be ignorant, just humor my lust for learning.
