This movie was OK, had some funny/entertaining moments, but really i wouldnt waste your time, nothing great. Kind of just drifts along...Natassja Kinski looks really hot tho, ill give it that much.
i agree with romaneti. i loved in the company of men(terrific aaron eckhart, and he remained terrific in all the movies i've seen him in), but "your friends & neighbors" was just too mean. what's the point of life then? it just went too far. a film that seems to forget people have a soul too. i loved "happiness" by tood solondz though, but this one is just too cold for me.
plus i was disappointed that the lesbian couple (nastassja kinski, wow! catherine keener!) didn't work out. catherine keener's character was despicable, jason patric was too. i couldn't relate to anyone in this movie, nor to the director's vision. i don't believe human relationships are that horrible.
some people are just that evil though. natassaja kinksi's character was a bitch too and she knew was getting into. The last scene between them with catherine keener ignoring her is painful to watch though. It didn't work out because no one was really supposed to end up happy. I don't see how you can like happiness that has equally scummy people(worse actually considering one was a pedophile) as this. I see them both as exaggerating the worst in people.
#51"That's right, one can make all kinds of explosives using simple household items"
I thought "Company" was equally mean. Only the deaf girl was nice there, and here, Eckhart was nice, and Brenneman was largely too, if depressed and stupid.
I think Eckhart will eventually end up with someone decent. Stiller may even develop into a decent human being eventually. Ditto Brenneman. Keener and Patric may be lost causes, but that's true of some people.
I just didn't feel this movie was supposed to reflect all humanity. Just a few messed up people. Just like "company."
I agree with Zando. And I also agree with those who view this as more realistic than fantasy. I personally have met people like this all the time, more than I'd like but to say it doesn't exist or it's not reality is to be extremely naive.
I liked 'Company of men' but not as much as I enjoyed this film. This one seemed to have a lot more going on than just a story of two older still immature guys joking around and out to prove something. Seemed to overall simplistic for me. And I thought what they did to that poor deaf girl was much worse than anything in this film even though she wasn't completely innocent in the end either.
This film is a bit more involved and gives you more of a darker and more realistic intricate look at dysfunctional relationships based on some people with eccentric personalities and how others, for some reason, seem to be attracted to the abuse.
It's actually much more common than we would like to think or accept. And I agree that 'Happiness' was even worse although I really enjoyed that fim as well. In either case these are as dark as comedies get and anything darker than this is a turn off for me.
