Sigourney Weaver definitely deserved an oscar nod !!!

She should have won the freakin' oscar in 1998!

She certainly deserved the nomination but I think Christina Ricci gave an even more remarkable performance and should have won the Oscar. Kevin Kline and Joan Allen also deserved lead nominations, and perhaps a supporting actor nomination for Tobey Maguire.

The complete shut-out of The Ice Storm is one of the great Oscar travesties of recent years.

A nod was the very least she deserved. For me she was the true supporting actress of 1997. Stunning work from her.

The scene of the Sigourney & Christina together, with Weaver telling her that she needed to be careful about how she lived her life, was probably the most riveting moment of the film for me. At least before the big death.

Sigourney & Christina speech was classic. At first she was making sense and then started to babble. I think all of a sudden in the middle of her speech she remembered oh I am bonking your father and go to swinger parties. Sigourney I felt was cold hearted and pretty selfish. Christina was very sexually curious and fixated on that one boy. She actually got him drunk to have sex with him.

And the fact that Helen Hunt, of all people, won for As Good As It Gets in 1998 shows how completely stupid and out of touch the Oscars are. The fact The Ice Storm wasn't even nominated for an Oscar but now appears on many top 10 lists of best films shows that the Oscars are never a good guide to a quality film.

I didn't see anything exceptional or impressive about her performance. Most of the acting in the movie was mediocre. Ricci was the best but none of them were Oscar worthy.
