why didnt they put a bandage on the horses face? it was dirty and i would think it would be infected withoult a bandage?

It looked like an open wound, but at that point it was just a scab. The reason it looked moist is that they would have put ointment on it, similar to neo-sporin. Typically you would only bandage a wound on a horse until it had scabbed over because leaving bandages on would make an already agitated horse even more agitated. By nature horses are pretty jittery animals. They have a lot of fear. They can be fine every day with the sound of a tractor starting up, but one day they might not...hope this helps.
