Extreme diffusion?

So this movie is pretty well done and I generally like how it was made.

One odd thing I noticed is just how diffused the film is in certain sections, starting with many of the interiors and then making its way outside. It's a pretty old school technique, just wondering if anyone had any thoughts about this, or maybe I'm just going crazy, haha.

I've always loved the cinematography in this movie I find if beautiful to look at but could you elaborate ? Not sure what you mean by "diffused" sorry I'm a bit slow I would like to know what you mean though :P

I think he means some of the shots, particularly of Kristin Scott Thomas, are filmed as if gauze is over the lens.

They are sometimes called beauty shots. It's making a scene hazy or purposely blurry, in order to enhance yet conceal skin that's wrinkled or has imperfections. It's used on scenery to create an "ethereal air." Dreamlike.
