I forgot how incredibly stressful the beginning of this movie is

I'm watching it right now, and actually almost started hyperventilating I was so upset. When you own a horse and have a really special bond, I think it's hard to watch what happened to Grace and Pilgrim (or Judith and Gulliver)and not imagine "oh god, what if that ever happened to me and my horse?" Just thinking about it while watching the first 15 minutes absolutely tore me up inside.

I've had and loved horses all my life. I also have reared a daughter. I've seen this movie several times on TV. Since the first viewing, I simply turn the TV to a different channel when the girls come to that road, and don't turn it back until I know the whole accident scene is over. I don't start watching again until the scene where Grace is in the hospital. It is just way way too traumatic and wrenching from all kinds of levels. I don't see how anyone who loves animals (especially horses) or children could watch it voluntarily, knowing what it's like.

They were just so casual and blase about the bad weather, actually singing while trying to get up that nasty hill. Chiding the horses, "come on!" like it was no big deal what they were doing. Just too careless for girls who were raised in winter riding conditions.

i watched this movie three times.. beautiful film

Watching it right now, but I'm not really feeling this. Maybe it's because I've never been around horses, so I can't relate?

The thing is, they decided to go for a ride in the snow. Smart idea. No wonder this crap happened.

I cannot believe some of the opinions on here. So what if they were riding in the snow? I do it all the time chasing cows and hunting elk, all in steeper country than the hill they slipped on. Horses spend nearly their entire lives on there feet. They know how to handle themselves.

This is a movie. Without the accident there is no drama, no drama no movie. Riding in the snow is just as dangerous as not, it's up to the rider. Just remember, it's a movie!

The girl's death bothered me a lot more than what happened to the dumb animals. I guess I am weird. Title of the movie should have been Rich People Don't Care about Anything But Themselves.

I've always liked this film and picked up a copy of the book recently. It's quite difficult starting it because you know what's coming and to be honest the book seems worse than I remember the film being. But once you get past that it's a good read and I resent the fact that I'm currently stuck in the office and cannot resume reading until the journey home.
