Alex Saves The Day

I've always wondered and thought about this. For the 5 Home Alones we've seen, we mostly remember them being about a kid who saves his house from being burglarized or in the 2nd one, from a store from being robbed. But, Alex would have to be the biggest hero, because he most likely saved the U.S. from a massive terrorist attack.
We know from the beginning of the movie that there are international high tech criminals, not low life burglars who are working for a terrorist organization in Hong Kong. They get a computer chip for a missile, which they obviously lose when Mrs. Hess accidentally takes their bag and Alex defends it.
I've always wondered what would have supposedly happened if Mrs. Hess never took their bag, or if they ended up being able to take it from Alex? Unless somebody else could have prevented it, there likely would have been a massive terrorist attack that would have most likely caused war and definitely disrupted peace. I guess we have a smart 8-year old to thank for keeping the chip out of the wrong hands. To anybody who wants to reply, my question is what would have happened if the terrorists succeeded in getting the chip to the Hong Kong terrorist organization?
