Who gave John the 6000 dollars?

Okay, so John needed the 6000 dollars he mentions at the beginning to pay his mother's funeral and when they're in Reno Sydney says that he knows someone in L.A. who can give him the money. First off I thought it was Jimmy but then I realized that Sydney didn't know Jimmy, who was just a friend of John.

Any ideas?

Well, I think it's hinted, but never said, that Sydney was very much connected to the Mob in his day, and now he's sort of semi-retired, in Vegas and then Reno. But he can probably still call in favors, and he's still got things going.
