PSH reprises sydney role in PDL?

I recently rewatched Sydney/Hard Eight (patiently waiting and whetting my appetite for There Will Be Blood), and it occured to me that Phillip Seymore Hoffman, as the young craps player, might be playing the exact same person as in Punch Drunk Love--Dean Trumbull. This is just an observation. I would love to hear what others think/have to say about this.

If true, it just adds another layer of complexity to Paul Thomas Anderson's body of work.

I don't think so, because Trumbell wasn't as happy or boisterous as the craps player. He was very quiet and reserved, but obviously with a bad temper, although, ultimately, a wimp. But, if you would like to believe this and it works for you, congrats. I personally just don't see it, although it would be cool.

I can't recall a young Philip Seymour Hoffman (PSH)in Hard Eight. Take your word for it and yes, love PT's use of the same stable of actors in many of his films. Looking forward to his upcoming film.

BTW, if you want to see PSH in another good flick, try to get your hands on "Owning Mahoney"....solid flick.

how can you not remember hoffman in Sydney?? He gave the most memorable performance in the flick!!

"I don't wait for old people, I don't wait for old people...I'm gonna light the cigarette OLD TIMER!!!"

Such a great flick...I'd like to see a directors cut though...
