Did I miss something? SPOILERS
At the beginning, when Sydney finds John outside the diner, how did he find him? Had he been following him? Was this expkained somewhere and I missed it?
I don't think it was explained exactly, but Sidney seemed to be a well-connected man who succeed at what he wanted to do. A classic old-timer who got things done, which was also proven after he helped with the hostage situation. I assume he had started looking for John sometime after killing his father, but it was not stated when the murder had actually happened. According to Jimmy it could have been a while. He eventually found him, and maybe he waited for the right moment to approach. John seemed quite down on his luck outside that diner and maybe this made Sidney feel extra sorry for him and thought perhaps John was more willing to let a stranger help him without an explanation.
