Did anyone else feel for Joe?

I felt so bad for Uncle Joe when he arrived at Finn's art show and made a fool of himself.
I felt SO sad and pitiful. He must have felt so awful, and the LOOK on his face was one of such disappointment, it made my heart ache and reach out to him.
Everytime I see his face in that brief moment, my heart feels a twinge and pangs come back to me. I just feel so sorry for the poor guy. That look... that LOOK! I will never forget. It's so moving and such an emotional scene.
Wonderful acting.

Chris Cooper really was terrific

Yeah absolutely. I felt like crying. It was really sad. He was such a nice guy.

absolutely i felt for joe. not just because chris cooper is such an amazing actor, but i think everyone (at least i have) hurt family/friends trying to impress other people by being embarrased of where you come from/who you are. i actually have cried during this scene when he gives that look. when he says, "hey, now i get it. i'm gonna go get some mcdonalds or something." just breaks my heart every time.

reply

I cried lol

You know what about Joe really get me touched? When Finn said something about his sister like 'stupid bitch' or something, Joe give him a clap on the head, even though she betrayed him in every way.

Of course everyone felt bad.

Uncle Joe was a great man and it was shameful how Finn was embarrassed by him.

Plus, Cooper is a great actor and made the character very easy to like.

"Aaah geez.. I- I'm proud of you Finn.. you know.. Always have been..."

Brought a tear to my eye...

GE is my favorite movie of all-time. However when that scene comes on, I ff or flip channels for 2 min; because it makes me so sad, and I feel guilty for how I have treated/been ashamed of some family members in my life. But that Chris Cooper/Joe is such a wonderful actor, to envoke such a feeling.

When Finn and Joe went outside the gallery, that was my favorite part of the story. I love how Ethan just stood there, holding his head down in shame for how he treated Joe. He KNOWS how wrong he was. Basically he was taking out his lies and insecurities on the one person who's been there for him his whole life.

Uncle Joe was so mature and forgiving even though he was hurt to the core.

Very soulful acting by both actors.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

this is the part that hurts me the most.. he treated him like sh*t and give him teh cold shower even through he was probably the only one who cared about him in the whole movie .... bad dog Finn , bad dog

I felt for Joe, that scene always makes me sad when i watch it! Finn was a tramp for not giving Joe a better house or not buying him anything when he went back home.

That scene is seriously gut wrenching and hard to watch. That was the first time that I ever took notice of Chris Cooper as an actor. I remember waiting for the credits to roll to see who was the actor that played Joe. Chris Cooper really is a PHENOMENAL character actor. I'm glad he has gotten more accolades as time has gone by. His turn as the strict military father in American Beauty was also terrific. I think his acting was better than Kevin Spacey's in that movie (not taking anything away from Spacey who is also a terrfic actor).

Had no idea this was the same guy who played Ricky's Dad in "American beauty"?! what an actor! it's hard to believe this movie is 15 years old. but I agree the scene where he accidently causes a scene at Finn's gallery is heartbreaking.
