Sorry if the answer is obvious, but...
Is it generally accepted that Estella was really in the apartment and Mrs. Dinsmoor was just covering her? I don't think you can confuse Estella's silhouette with Mrs. D's.

It's funny, this is one of my favorites films of all time, and I never really questioned that it was Estella was gone by that point. I mean, it seems as if she's already married and on the plane by that point and I never thought otherwise. But I just watched it again the other day and I'm looking at the shape in the window thinking how could that NOT be Estella? All the times I've seen it and now suddenly I'm confused. Sorry not to be more help, but just letting you know you're not alone in this one.

shareI know this is 8 years late but it absolutely was not Estella. If I remember right after Finn leaves the house we get a shot of the airplane in the sky above and Estella looking down. She's on the plane not in the house.
