Fight Scene
Were Will and the boys part of a gang? What was the reason/purpose of the schoolyard fight early on in movie? Was it just to show how meaningless their lives were?

The guy that Will went after, was because of revenge. The guy beat Will up in Kindergarten. The other guys were I guess running interference for Will. They had absolutely no reason to fight otherwise according to the movie. No gang affiliations, the guys were just friends.
