Why this movie is so great?

I thought Will hunting role turns into big mathematician like Ramanujan.
But movie turns into Psychology conversation between Will Hunting & Sean Maguire. Nothing else in the movie.

If you see "A Beautiful Mind (2001), main role "John Nash" turned into brilliant mathematician.

Why this movie is so great?

Not every movie is for everyone. That's ok. For me, this movie has everything in just the right proportions, and I can watch it again and again.

reply

It is a better movie if you watch it for what it is and not for what you think it should be.

Sometimes I think we're alone in the universe, and sometimes not.

Because Sean works at a junior college...Jerry works at an elite school...yet Sean "gets it." He gets life. Jerry is smart about math - not much else. So what really defines intelligence?

When you find a good therapist and "you click" magic happens. Sean basically gave Will everything he missed in life.

Will was also exactly what Sean needed. A true challenge. Will was exactly why Sean "made a choice" to do what he does. Its his passion and he was great at it. Will proved that to him.

i tend to like movies that are about one thing and shift into another. i think the intent was to show that regardless of our status in career, academia or our standing with the law, we're people first. and will's mental health was much more difficult and necessary of a development than his talents.
