Good Will Hunting + Minnie Driver = Ruined Movie

Ok kidding, I really love this film and it has held up well over time. But, Driver was horrible in every scene and does simply not have the acting chops for the role. Every character in the movie felt genuine and true, even Will's outrageous talent was believable because of the writing and Matt's natural acting. I still cringed almost every time Minnie came on screen. There was no chemistry. The fast forward button was pretty useful though :D

Well you've stated your opinion. Mine is pretty much the opposite about Minnie Driver in this movie.

As is mine. I thought Minnie was tremendous in the film.

I thought she was great, apart from the crying scenes, though I often feel that actors are quite bad at those.

reply

Absolutely

reply

I have to be honest, I did not care for her in this role as well.

reply

I have to strongly disagree with you here. I thought she was great as Skylar, doing an excellent job of portraying the young woman's feelings and reactions.

Teach, agreed. She was believably attractive and quirky but not in an annoying Zooey Deschanel adorkable way. That scene when she tells him she loves him is heartbreaking.

Couldn't have said it better, gal.

reply

Amen. She was absolutely perfect for this movie.

To me, Minnie Driver was the only down side to this movie. I found her acting pretty annoying.

And I also can't pair the words "attractive" and "Minnie Driver" together, because I really don't find her attractive at all. Zooey, on the other hand is stunningly attractive.

I may be outnumbered, but not even the odds can stand against me

I can't believe she was nominated for best supporting actress. To me she was simply "token Limey". It would have been much better if her character was cut out

reply

Would you have preferred the film if Will instead dated a huge Nigerian black man?

reply

I disagree, I think she was perfect for the role. Oh well.

she was excellent

I rewatched this today, and-- I have to say, I really liked her in this. I got a chuckle when she told that joke! that's for sure.

I always wondered the reasoning behind casting her. I don't think she was bad, but she didn't bring anything either

The first time I saw the movie (in theater) I loved Minnie in this role.
But I haven't liked her in any other viewing. I'm watching it now and she's definitely irritating and producing cringeworthy scenes.

Too bad they couldn't match Matt with someone who came off as intelligent but not overly quirky, unsexy and annoying. Just the sound of her voice is grating.

I agree with this. When I watch it now, I skip through some of her scenes, especially the one where she tells a lame story in the bar, doing a stupid oirish accent.

Her voice sounds like a squawking donkey and her dumb effected laugh HAW HAW HAW makes me want to puke on the tv.

Just be grateful they cut the scene where she visits Chuckie to ask him about Will. It's godawful. It's on the blu ray deleted scenes. Have a bucket to hand in case you vomit.

I'm pretty sure she got the part because Damon and Affleck wanted her in the film.
