Airport Bathroom Scene Question

There's one scene in the film that I've never quite understood. Nicholas is sitting at the airport exec lounge and sees that the CRS pen has leaked in his shirt pocket. He goes to the bathroom to try to clean his shirt (and it's by far the nicest airport bathroom in the history of the world) and there's a man in a stall who asks him for some toilet paper. Nicholas stares at the man's outstretched hand for a moment and then leaves.

Was it some kind of CRS test designed to measure empathy for others?

reply

That's a good guess...or interaction with strangers, or suspicion of others true intentions etc..

Or a CRS guy just gaslighting.

Or it could be just some guy who ran out.

It's such a unusual occurrence, that the viewer really can't tell.

Adds to the paranoia this movie slowly develops well.

reply

Indeed. Imagine how paranoid a person would become if you had to wonder if everyone you met was part of some elaborate game focused around you.
