film's message meant something to me
listen, i have not served in the military so i can't go about debating the authenticity of how the film portrayed the military. but i can say that the story meant something to me. not just as a woman, but as a human being. don't give up. and hey, i know that sounds like an over used line and cheesy but it's the clearest i can give you on what message it sent to me personally. i could feel how cold demi's character was on the beach in the wee hours of the morning and i felt like i could feel the weight on her shoulders holding the raft with the others. i could sense that feeling of guilt when she secretly wanted to break down and cry but knew she couldn't because if she did it would be seen as a sign of 'feminine weakness' rather than a 'body's natural response' from stress. i admire the character's strength because i know that if i was there i would have had a million moments where i'd want to break down and cry. the message is your body and your mind have more resitance and strength than you might think. it dares you to test your boundaries. it dares you to break away the barricades that keep you from your goals in life.
