The trivia on this page says the Arizona/Nevada border was only painted for the movie. Not true. I made my first trip to Arizona and Nevada in 1993 and I remember driving to the Hoover dam and going across the border. That painted demarcation is how you know what side you were on. There's also a sign high on the winding road near the border that says Welcome to Arizona. At least, that's what I remember on the visit. We visit NV and AZ every year but I only went to the dam onc.

I was on a tour this past summer that went to Hoover Dam. The line and state names were gone. I asked the tour guide about them and he said that they were painted on when the road was first opened and then removed years later. They were repainted for the movie and left on until they were removed again. He said they were removed because traffic slowed too much due to people stopping to take pictures as they crossed.
