Are there any movies similar to this, where the focus of the movie is not on the circumstances that bring together two very different people, but rather, on how those two very different people handle the difference in their backgrounds while being together?

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but I thought Doc Hollywood had a similar feel to it. Kind of a fish out of water romantic comedy. It doesn't have the interracial thing, but the two main characters have different backgrounds.
