Well it's not just that; I've noticed in a lot of those 'cross culture romance' movies, the white guy/gal is always, SUPER white--Anglo: English, German, Nordic, etc and USUALLY UN-religious & come from a small family of stuffy, standoffish people...For some reason the nice, exotic Mexican/Latin Guy/Gal never meets a Southern European (Portuguese, Italian, Sicilian, Greek, Yugoslav, etc) or an Armenian or an Assyrian who's just as devout as they are and have just as large and intrusive a family as the other side does...I don't get it...
But I'm Greek & My Wife is from Cuba & that MIX is why we went to see this film---well, that and Salma Hayek was in it...:o)

yeah, but there's 'white(WASP)' & there's 'white(see 'other')'...No, I don't think there's a 'plot' against art films or whatnot...and you're probably right that it's an overused plot (that and the Jewish guy who falls for the 'fill in the blank') but I guess I'd enjoy TWO strong, invasive cultures clashing in a funny sort of way; The thing is Hollywood has been suffering from a dearth of originality for decades now---and it doesn't help that the culture dominating the movie industry is mostly made up of the assimilated secular desendents of Baltic/Polish/Russian/Ukraininan Jewish immigrants & MOST of whom have either grown up in New York or Los Angeles---they just keep reusing the same experiences over and over; Every so often somebody sees a film from Hong Kong or India & something NEW hits the screen---but then THAT is RUN to death too!

Well, if every movie the OP sees involves inter racial romance, she must be deliberately picking the 5% or so of Hollywood movies that deal with that topic. 95% of Hollywood movies have to do with Caucasian guys falling in love with Caucasian gals.

Yes, I too choose to look at these kind of movies in a postive light. Maybe instead of looking at it negatively, you can imagine that maybe movies made like this are trying to send out a message that says segragation is not the answer to every culture. I probably spelled segregation wrong but you get my point.

BUT c'mon.. how boring would it be to see two people of the same background, morals,ethics, etc.. all get together.. even with the white on white, action, so to speak of.. Bridget Jones.. or.. Notting Hill.. or.. When Harry Met Sally.. what's interesting is the CONFLICT.. the differences.. if they were both the same.. they'd be pretty interchangeable and kinda boring.. the whole different cultures gives a spart more of interest.. how boring would it be to say.. Oh we like each other.. and our parents all get along.. the essence of drama, even in a romantic comedy,is conflict..

besides, when a couple from different cultures gets together the inevitable clash does occur but the melding of the two is absolutely fascinating and exciting. It's usually too comfortable with people from the same culture.

Granted the concept was not totally originally but the movie was a fun, romantic comedy and the culture clash, while done often, makes for a good plot. The point was also that they hooked up and got married with a baby on the way BEFORE really learning about each other. So all those things you usually work on beforehand - meeting sig other's parents, both sets of parents meeting each other, deciding where to live, learning about religious and cultural differences - did not happen until AFTER they were married. So, I liked the film even if it was not the most unique.

Its so crazy how close this movie's story and our story is except iam not all uptight and nervous like matthew perry haha. Its just the way the world works i guess, I am a sucker for mexican chicks and have always been. She was a mexican who liked white dudes idk, this movie trips us out tho we call it our biography haha

My sister in law marie is mexicana american,she said it proud and loud,that she is hispanic,latina,and she is brown and proud no matter how light white skin almost she is,and her spouse,my brother work in lawenforcement and he was saying how even those early on were like,"oh her fam accept you." smh.But honestly later it all worked out.They are still with each other,five kids later 15 years of happy-marriage.But hispanics are not white,she is prudent enough to know that.As she call our fam"gringo amor."LOL she good people and we are lucky to have em all as a part of our extended family for 15 years,since she was age 24

Most Hispanics are not White, most Hispanics are Mixed Race a Triracial mix of Amerindian, African, and Spanish. Hispanics are who genetically 100 percent pure European are in the minority.
When Hispanic celebrities like George Lopez and Eva Longoria took DNA tests, it revealed that they are racial mutts and not pure European.
