What happened to the subtitles?
I was just watching this on cable and there were no subtitles for any of the Spanish language. I saw it years ago, a few times, and I can't remember if either there was more English spoken that they now changed and use the Spanish instead (like when she's speaking with her grandmother), or if they just removed the subtitles. It also seems like some scenes may have been recut/edited, because there were a few that I don't recall seeing before at all. Is this some new anniversary edition edit or something?
That said, I am finding it more and more frustrating that movies and television now that is bilingual - with some Hispanic characters occasionally speaking Spanish - that they just don't use English subtitles for those scenes at all anymore. It's like they just assume now that since the Hispanic population has really grown in the US, that we should all be able to follow the dialog by now, and if we can't then too bad. Anyway, a lot of the Spanish spoken in this movie seemed pretty essential to the story, and I'm certain there WERE subtitles in the original film. So why leave it out? If I hadn't seen this film before I would have been completely lost in some of the scenes.
