The last scene with lefty.

Was lefty leaving all his belongings behind because he was going to get killed or what?

reply

That was what I was figuring. Killed or commit suicide. Either way, his belongings would stay with his wife rather than end up at the bottom of the river or or in a land-fill.

This part of the movie is not accurate. In real life, it was Sonny Black who was sent for and murdered. Lefty was on his way for a meeting when the FBI intercepted him and more than likely stopped him from being murdered.

Lefty was "sent for" at the end of the film. This time he had no doubts.

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

So we know from history that Left was "sent for" but arrested by the FBI on the way to being killed.

And Sonny Black was sent for and WAS killed. Man, he wasn't under surveillance after the FBI agents visited the social club and told him "Donnie" was FBI? Wow, what a cockup!

Anyway, it did make me wonder (not having read the books) who was left to "send for" Sonny Black and Lefty.

The Sonny Red crew were all dead.

Rusty was in prison. But as Sonny Black said at the beginning of the film, Rusty was still running things from prison.

So who sent for Black and Lefty? Who was left?

reply

Haven't read the book either but realize it does not tell all and the film much less. Also facts may be misrepresented or left out in either story. The Bonnano Family surely had more capos than depicted in the film. One of those was likely Big Joe Massino who was involved in the Sonny Red hit and took street control of the Family (under Rusty) soon sending for Sonny Black and Lefty after the Brasco debacle. This is long but explains in more detail. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Massino

Its a plot hole because there was no one left to send for them

reply

It’s definitely not a plot hole because there was still hierarchy in the Bonanno family above Sonny Black…even if they did not have a role in the film. Joseph Massino for one (who is alleged to have given the order). If the order hadn’t come from within the Bonanno family it certainly could have come from one of the other four New York families. They actually had the Bonanno family kicked off of the Commission for the Donnie Brasco situation.

He was killed. He was "sent for" and accepted his fate. He made sure to leave his stuff at home and say something nice to his girlfriend before dying.

Real life was different, but I thought it was pretty clear that the movie character of Lefty dies.
