Joe Pistone cameo?

Did the real Joe Pistone/Donnie Brasco make a cameo in this film?

I recall someone telling me that the guy in the barber's chair who vouches for Johnny Depp is the real Joe Pistone. Which would have been a very clever piece of film-making.

reply

The guy in the barber shop definitely wasn't him.

In the book Unfinished Business, Pistone said that he went to New York during filming to work as a consultant on the movie. But I'm pretty sure he never made a cameo.

He's on the boat with them; I believe it's the scene where's he's being introduced by Sonny.

reply

He's in government protection, so I doubt it.

Pistone actually did an interview on Arsenio Hall where he stated that since no longer employed by the FBI they no longer protect him except when he is testifying against the mob. He could have (my guess) likely opted for the witness protection program but from what I understand that is an unpleasant last resort. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2eGQsLQyZY

As far as the cameo there is an article stating he was a paid consultant on the film and appeared in one of the "featurettes" of the extended version . Not sure if that means an outtake or an actual cameo. http://news.moviefone.com/2012/02/27/donnie-brasco-15th-anniversary/

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

He's in the movie. Look at the boat scene. He is one of the bodyguards. He has no lines.

reply

Joe appears as one of Trifficante's bodyguards. It looks exactly like him, but he's credited as Joe Francis.
