Gwen was Harriet's mom?? I was quite surprised since their relationship quite strongly reflected that of a sibling relationship.

It was a twist; being surprised is very much the idea. Of course Harriet treated Gwen as she would a sister; she had no idea that Gwen was anything else. As for why Gwen treated Harriet the way she did, that's open for interpretation.

Harriet didn't believe Gwen when she told her those things and you say it was denial but when Harriet said "You're lying.", that didn't sound like denial to me.

Well they all pretended Gwen was Harriet's sister...maybe after a while Gwen started believing it herself as she went on with her life.....how old was Gwen anyways, 24-25 yrs!!
