Sutherland's god awful performance.

If he didnt win a razzie for this he should have. I coulnt stop thinking of how many character actors out there could have nailed this performance. He was waaay out of his element and laughably bad at times. Otherwise...fantastic film.

For some reason I really liked his acting in this, I liked the voice he does in it, really breathy.

Sutherland's acting was spot on in this, his heavy breathing, stuttering etc fitted the role perfectly, I dont know what everyone's problem is

I thought he did a great job! Truly different performance from any of his other roles.

Agreed, it's one of his few roles that isn't "Kiefer Sutherland is ____!" (in most recent cases, Jack Bauer)

The character is very strange and is meant to make you feel a little uncomfortable. Not only is he a traitor to his own kind, but his appearance and physical afflictions make him the kind of person that you'd try to look past in the street. Don't mistake you being uncomfortable with something for bad acting. Or would you have rather someone like Tom Cruise portray a charming, charismatic Schreber? -_-;

Good points. I totally agree! :-)

I hated him in this film just like I've hated him in everything else that he's done. The man CANNOT act! He was the one weak link in Dark City. His father has more acting talent in his little finger than his no-talent kid has in his whole body.

I think he did some good acting on the first season of 24 and in a bunch of movies, but here he's just fĂșcking annoying! Hated his acting on Dark City.

I feel that the character of Sutherland is a throwback to those creepy uncomfortable gothic characters in the 20s or 30s films. I loved Kiefer in this actually, he's probably my favorite character in this film.

Like every character in the film, he was a throw back to character arch-type as opposed to a fictional representation of a realistic character. In this case, he is a throw back to characters like Rotwang from Metropolis. He feels slightly out of touch with the film noir imagery of the film, but then fits easily into place when the film fully reveals its sci - fi centre

Very much agree. I think he did an outstanding job.

His interpretation of the character was so over-acted, it almost ruined an otherwise fantastic film. I couldn't get out of my head that he sounded like Rain Man ("10 minutes to Wopner"). Horrible. Just horrible.

I agree he was terrible in this.
I don't think he's terrible overall though.

He is terrible in this just like everything else I have ever seen him do. He pretty much ruined this movie which could have been pretty good.

reply

I think he was fantastic in the film.

If there was one problem with this otherwise great movie, it was Sutherland. He just didn't convince me at all that his verbal tics were "real", or a natural part of the character. Compare this to, say, ANY character Depp plays, where he puts on a personality and LIVES in it, no matter how absurd it may be. That's the way this character should have been done.

Sutherland reminds me of a college student actor trying desperately to do a character, going way over the top, and failing spectacularly.
