WOW I respect your opinion but why so many dislikes???

reply

A lot of them are in the 'have not seen' category.

But you know there is a ton of _bad_ sci fic out there!

reply

How could somebody be so dumb to put in the same category "deslike" with "have not seen". That's just wrong.

Sadly, my thoughts on Dark City are a little on the contrary to everyone else's. If anything, I think it's very much an overrated film and still a little confused as to why it is billed as a Sci-fi.

Your list of 90's sci-fi films however does contain some of my favouite's too:

Strange Days
Mimic
Demolition Man
Alien 3
RoboCop 2
Predator 2
Event Horizon

Other underrated 90's sci-fi films not on your list that I'd include:

Bicentennial Man
Galaxy Quest
Pi
Starship Troopers
Cube

Also as you've already mentioned, The 90's also had some exceptional guilty pleasures in the sci-fi genre. For me, these would be near the top:

Judge Dredd
Soldier
Timecop
The Rocketeer
Universal Soldier
The Postman
Waterworld
Escape From LA
Species
Mars Attacks

I'd also highly recommend that you seek out a little known film called Coherence (2013). I know it's not 90's but it's certainly an undiscovered gem that should be watched by any sci-fi fan.

Thanks for your comment and recommendation. I'll try to check on that movie

Cool picks. I've only seen a handful of them but they're all good, especially Alien 3, an underrated gem.

A couple more worth checking out:
Nirvana (1997) - Try to find the original 2-hour Italian version if you can. Great cyberpunk flick sort of like "Strange Days", it's about a videogame where the character in the game becomes self-aware, and the programmer (Christopher Lambert from Highlander!) is trying to stop the game from being released.

Solaris (2002) - Ok, not exactly 90s, but close. A very dark, psychological scifi thriller about a space station where everyone goes mad. It's a remake of a famous 70s Russian flick, and I actually like this remake better.

Until the End of the World (1991) - Not a scifi in terms of spaceships and special effects, but it's set in the near future (back then, the near future was 1999) and it TOTALLY predicted a lot of things such as talking GPS cars, internet detective searches, and blingy iphone cases. Oh yeah, it also predicted that a satellite would go haywire in 1999 which actually happened. The movie itself is about people looking for a device that can record dreams out of your head. Starring William Hurt who was the detective in Dark City.
