Was the city itself spinning? (Spoilers)
Is that why there were spiral symbols? Even the coffee had a spiral moving counter clockwise. And of course finger prints, though the aliens read that as Johns ability to tune.

I didn't take it that the city was constantly spinning, I think the spiral symbols more matched the maze like nature of the city itself, that there was truly no way out. It's the conclusion Bumstead came to after 'writing in circles, thinking in circles'
