Love this movie.

Nah, you're not. I put it on once every couple of years. I'm watching it right now. I love small-town American values. Real folksy

Mind you, is it a bit of an odd choice for both Brosnan AND Hamilton to be in it - given their rep as action heroes in sci-fi?

I just saw this film for the first time on Friday when I was subbing in a high school Earth Science class. I had to show it to every period, so I've seen it 5 times. I actually really liked it!

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I wouldn't really know how to defend this movie against snobs. All I know is that it was one of the first movies I ever saw at the movies and I loved it as a kid. It's one of those films that made me believe in the magic of cinema and that feeling is still with me whenever I see it.

I'm watching the film again right now. I used to have a copy on VHS that I would watch once every few months. I was addicted to it. As far as disaster films go, this one is near perfect.

Absolutely agree. One of the best disaster films I've seen. I love the 90s because that's when practical effects were still being combined with CGI, instead of films today where everything is almost 100% CGI.

I saw this when I was little. I watched it over and over again and loved it. I still watch it when its on TV. Good childhood memories.

I saw this movie at the theater when I was a kid (one of the first films I ever saw in a theater) and I absolutely loved it. It captured that magical feeling of, well, excitement that most summer movies of today lack. I hadn't seen it since I was little and I was afraid I wasn't going to like it, but when I recently saw it I loved it. I love how in the 90s special effects were a combination of CGI with practical effects, not like films today where most special effects are 99% CGI. This film also benefits of having some very likeable main characters, which is obviously a plus in summer films. Finally, what makes the film for me is the build up. The music is GREAT and it helps so much to build up the tension until the volcano finally erupts. Maybe I love this movie because it's one of the first theater experiences I ever had, but whatever, I still think it is one of the best disaster movies I've seen (along with Twister).

Wow! you took the words right out of my mouth! I agree about 2012. Literally the BEST disaster sequences I've ever seen, and Cusack was likeable enough as a lead, but everything else just didn't draw me in. I truly cannot believe the guys in here who say this is one of the worst films they have ever seen. You don't need COMPLEX characters in this type of movies, as long as they are likeable and well acted is enough for one to care about their survival. Great build up, great music, great disaster scenes (even if they are not as big as, say, 2012, they are terrifying and since you care for the characters, that's what makes the scenes more exciting). Overall, I give this film at least an 8.

I love this movie. Right now its on movies on demand on Starz and I watch it every night. Heck its one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I could listen to Brosnan read the phone book.

I rate it a solid 8/10. Dante's Peak only had 27% on RT and that's crazy. It's a thrilling (although cheesy) disaster film. Better than a lot of other efforts I've seen this century in the genre to be honest.

This movie was fantastic! Keeps your interest, full of excitement , actually was ahead of its time as far as catastrophic epics.

I have it saved on DVR AND aa VHS tape AND a DVD.

I just now watched it again.

It's great. Loved it when I was a kid and it holds up just as well today.

Yup, I love it too! I saw this when it came out as a kid, maybe 10 or 11 and absolutely loved it. I really don't know what's not to like. It's a really fun movie that doesn't try to take itself to seriously. If people don't like it I am not really sure what they're expecting and must not know how to have fun. Movies are meant to be an escape and entertain, and that's exactly what this one does.
