The ending, my god...

What an incredible movie up until the ending. It felt real, a unique atmosphere and plot, good acting, and it was very suspenseful.

The ending seemed like it was directed by Michael Bay. Huge explosions, car chases, and elaborate death scenes. It really deflates the build up that the rest of the movie created.

The ending was a let down indeed. But honestly, I didn't expect the movie to end in a different way.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

The look on J.T Walsh's face when Kurt Russell got him with the chains was priceless!

If I had been Kurt Russel in this I would NOT have dropped the truck on that guy.

Had he died from his injuries from the fall it would have been minutes or hours of intense pain and suffering and the truck drop would have constituted euthanasia.

Had he survived he would have had to spend the rest of his life in prison AND would have likely been a cripple from his injuries.

Either way killing him was not the best revenge.

I loved how the villian was squashed like a bug with his own truck! I thought the ending was just fine.

Did all the bad guys get killed? I can't remember but I think so? I really wanted at least some of them serving life prison sentences getting repeatedly butt raped.

Kunjite Forbidden Subjects, Blood and Bone, and AN INNOCENT MAN are example of endings I cherish for horrible people, a life of getting repeatedly beaten up and gang raped which some people really do deserve.

You know what the creepiest scene for me was? the PANCAKE BREAKFAST. Those guys being so friendly to JK Walsh's wife, having a friendly breakfast together, one of them saying how he loves hot cakes, it just seemed so ORDINARY, not like they were monsters at all. Whenever I see monster people behaving in totally ordinary ways it is just so incongruous.

How could a group of criminals be that stupid? Kidnapping for ransom is one of the least successful crimes there is and they were doing it REPEATEDLY. They really think their luck will never run out????

reply

It was his wife that put the truck in gear to move forward and drop down.

I totally agree, The best punishment would to let him live.

reply

And let him kill more people?

The ending...how is the pickup truck not able to out run a tractor and a deuce and a quarter like car? It's stupid to think why Americans would want a pickup if it can't out run a damn tractor. Fat guy takes a shot to the shoulder and he can still drive, Were he was shot is were the arm is connected to the body, it's all bones and he was like the Terminator. It's ridiculous how unbelievable it got at the end. He couldn't give his wife the gun or rifle to shoot the red car? He said the gun is out, but it never locked back also. The ending had flaws..many flaws. What a great way to tell a child to kill someone also, by his mother and father. I can see how he would of grown up to be. I would of killed that damn kid.

What the hell are you talking about?

Utah! Get me two.

If it was a low end model it probably had a weak engine. With 4 gears it would be slow as well since it was made to cruise the highways at 55+ efficiently, not accelerate at low end speeds in a city. Plus semitrucks can be very fast when empty of a load, which his was. Even faster when bobtailing.

reply

Hmmm.. I've always enjoyed the ending. It's a movie, why not.

reply

it's a great ending and a great movie some people will complain about ANYTHING I'm not sure why they want a movie to be 100% realistic

At the end of the movie, Kurt Russel should have held the family hostage and carefully head back to the house to phone the cops while making sure to watch for Billy, or stay in the barn and wait for Billy to enter. I would have held Red's kid Deke hostage because he cannot over power Kurt Russel and that's your bargaining chip and I doubt Billy would aim for Kurt having Deke held hostage and I would have told all those mf's to get back in the house while the cops come. To run out into the field you're a target and Billy will free the family and your screwed.

I think if he had done everything perfectly, it would of been unbelivable, at least I am certain we dont react in the most perfect ways when facing unreal situations, partially it was following his guts, I liked that, I thought about the phone but then I was like, do they have a phone? where to find it? if I stay will the other guy come with a gun or ask for help? I thought he just wanted to get himself and his wife out of there ASAP I would of felt the same way, really liked how it played out.

I thought the ending was perfect. It really added to the film. I don't see how you could think the ending was unbelievable but that an ordinary person could run alongside an 18-wheeler, catch up to it and then crawl underneath it would make perfect sense. It just makes for great entertainment. I do like how real the whole movie felt otherwise, where things just don't always work out. For instance, the part where he's in the bank bathroom trying to find a weapon but couldn't find anything. Or during the car chase when he's got 2 cars on both sides and the audience is thinking "well why don't you just hit the brakes" and then he does but there's the car behind him. It's moments like that, that made the movie for me.

Had never heard of this movie b4 tonite on IFC - pretty good --- the ending act was just clunky all about --- sure they debated how to improve all this --- oh well - the ending is the ending now.

reply

Main thing annoying me about the ending was it just leaves them there with no DEFINITE proof of how it ends. Heck, those other people could have shown up and offed them or something. When the whole point of a movie is "will he save her", it needs more of a definite end. I guess we can assume they were fine, though, but still....

reply

Personally, I loved the ending, didn't see it coming, and particularly not from her. I laughed out loud. Poetic justice - it's just a film, but romanticizes about a kind of rough justice many of us would like to render to our enemies.

This film is a work of fiction, and an entertaining one. I think that ending enhanced my enjoyment, to be honest.
