Why isn't this film in IMDB's top 250?
It's been given an average score of 8.1 and should appear in the top 250 but why isn't it? Does anyone know why?

From the bottom of the page with the top 250 list:
The formula for calculating the Top Rated 250 Titles gives a true Bayesian estimate:First there's the possibility of a difference between the ratings of all voters and those of regular voters. Only the latter count for the top 250, but in all probability there isn't much difference between the two groups.
weighted rating (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C
where:
* R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
* v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
* m = minimum votes required to be listed in the Top 250 (currently 3000)
* C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 6.9)
for the Top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered.
Fortunately, it's back on the list again, but I'm not sure how long for. Check the evolution: http://top250.info/movie/?0118694/full
My Favourite 250 Films: http://www.imdb.com/list/XqrpBbhmslg/
It is ranked as #250 right now!
"The fundamental things apply, as time goes by."
#249 at the moment.
Probably not for long though, I just gave it a 5. Sorry about that :-(
Maybe you need me to justify my vote. One thing is that I didn't really sympathize with the characters. The movie looked very good but there wasn't enough happening to keep me really interested.
why do you need to justify your vote?
it is an opinion... so vote your opinion,
no justification needed.
rather than relying on the vagaries of the internets,
a more sensible ranking of films is in the Sight & Sound poll of every 10 years.
those are better informed opinions,
though one does not have to agree with them either.
here is the last poll's ranking (2012) [ http://www.bfi.org.uk/news/50-greatest-films-all-time ].
it is #24 out of the top 50 movies of all time,
if that matters.
Britney Spears made it to the top of the Billboard's chart for many years...
would you call her a musician?
