After we find out that Mr. Chan was cheating with Mrs. Chow, there's a scene where a woman is crying in the shower - who is that, Mrs. Chow or Mrs. Chan (Maggie Cheung)?? It looks like a hotel room, but is it one of their apartments?
I'm pretty sure that was Chow. She'd just callously ended her affair with Chan, & is now regretting it. Sequence of events was her on the phone with Chan, "Oh your wife's suspicion bothers you? Fine. Don't see me anymore." then a woman crying (with her hair cut) and then she & Chan are back together...
It was just a small scene, a small scene which explains why the affair continues, and why things don't work out so well. If the male Chan & female Chow just had their act together, they'd dump their spouses, leaving them free. However they don't, so they keep them hanging on.
It was definitley Maggie Cheung. They make a point of not showing Mrs. Chow, and I do not see why the director would put a poignant scene of a woman crying in the shower for a character that is never properly shown in the film.
Sorry, but I have to disagree. I can't remember the exact names, but I always thought it was Tony Leung's wife, since 1) her face is never shown, just as Maggie's husband's face is never shown, and 2) the hairstyle. In the first slow-mo sequence, you see Tony's wife go in and her hair is in that style. I think they maintained it and didn't get her hair wet to tell us it was Tony's unseen wife.
I think you are right too .. Tony's wife in the shower. I thought it was Maggie C., but clearly the hair is Tony's wife - knowing the mess was discovered.
it's actually Mrs Chow .. don't you see her hair? her hair was shown previously for a little while and it was in the hotel after the shot of shower we see a man most probably Mr. Chan knocking at the door of the hotel with number 2048 i think :S
