The slippers

I love this movie to death, but on last viewing it occurred to me that there is a plot improbability with the pink slippers. I wouldn't call it a plothole, but still.

When Mrs. Chan has to leave the room of Mr. Chow wearing the wrong shoes, she could
a) have carried her slippers with her in a bag.
If she forgot to do that, then in this period the two continued to see each other, rehearse stuff and write the comics. Surely she would have
b) asked him to give them back to her.

The fate of the slippers is a beautiful plot device, but now seems they were stretching it with letting Mr. Chow keep them after that night.
It doesn't take anything away from the movie for me, but what do you think?
