Was there ever going to be an Austin Powers animated series?

I could have swore that sometime in the late 90s I saw a commercial on TV or on the internet, I can't remember that there was going to be an Austin Powers animated series but I can't find anything about it online and as far as I know the show never aired on TV. So was it planned?

Maybe I just dreamed this up....

There certainly was one planned, although I didn't think it got far enough into production for a commercial to be made.

You can read about it about halfway down in that article. (Watch for it on HBO in the year 2000!) I personally think no 80's or 90's film is complete without a companion TV show. :P

Interesting. Good to know I didn't dream it up. Now that I think about it, I think what I saw was something on HBO that just talked about it and showed some of the drawings of the characters from the show. I don't know my memory of this is vague.

Probably the most logical explanation for why the show never materialized is that Mike Myers was probably not up for doing the schedule a TV show requires at that time.

I think Austin Powers could still work as an animated series, especially if they ran it on a channel like HBO where it wouldn't have as many restrictions with regard to content.

Frankly, I'm also surprised they never optioned Austin Powers as a video game (first-person shooter).

The only way I could see that working would be if the team behind TimeSplitters made it.
