she's a fembot?! *******spoilers****** *

I don't get it at all! If she's a fembot and the agency knew all about it, wouldn't they have stopped her! Our was she a good femobt and went bad!? I don't know! Was she really talking on the phone with her "mom"!? And if she was talking to her mom-who really isn't her mom-how can a femobt have feelingsand get druck????????????????????????????????????????????? ETC!

reply

my guess is that she was a human, and then, after they were married, in the second movie, Vanessa actually forged his signature on divorce papers, signed them herself, replaced herself with a fembot, and then KAPOW!!! Actually, that probably not it, but they had to make him not married in the second one SOMEHOW.

Dear me! What is that unpleasant aroma? I fear the sewer may have backed up during the night.

reply

The correct answer is....its just a silly movie.

reply

nah the correct answer is it was a cheaply written plot hole in the sequel.

I think it was an attempt to spoof the Bond movies. Bond's love from one movie is always gone by the next.

reply

I think she was a normal human being for most of the movie, until the end of the film where she's captured by Alotta Fagina, who replaces her with a Fembot. The Vanessa we see in the rest of the movie (the one that marries Austin) is the Fembot (a new model capable of resisting Austin's charms obviously), the real Vanessa has either been killed or is still being held prisoner by the bad guys, something a fourth movie could deal with.

reply

another reason this is such a cheap plot hole (vanessa was a "fembot" all along) going from one movie to the next is that we have scenes where vanessa is talking to her mom on the phone.

the only reason they had this was so they could cast another leading lady in the future films because they were married at the end of the first, just like all the bond movies.

this is one of the many reasons why the sequels are just inferior, tools of marketing.

You don't know how to watch movies.

I AM NOT MONTEL WILLIAMS.

It wasn't a plot hole, it was a joke.

I agree with born-rock64. Don't cofuse the original AP movie with ANYTHING from the sequels. The first one stands on its own, and the others betray the consistency of the characters and plotlines for the sake of a cheap and easy laugh. Just look at Austin's reaction after Basil tells him they knew ALL ALONG that Vanessa was a fembot. Austin's face seems to say "That makes no sense." Even they knew they were blowing up the original format.

Not that I don't think the others have their moments, they're just not in the same league as the first AP.

reply

It's really quite simple. Either Hurley didn't want to be in the second film, or they just wanted to introduce a new love interest like the Bond movies always had a new girl for every film. Probably the latter.

So they turn her into a fembot and kill her off. When Austin tells Basil, Basil says "Yes I know" like it was a normal fact and then very quickly moves to the next story line. It's the movie's way of saying "Yes, we all know that this is silly and doesn't make sense but just ignore it and go with us on this okay."

"I'd resent that if I were sober."

Either Hurley didn't want to be in the second film...

Hurley was in AP2. The fembot didn't play itself.

It was just a joke and an easy out/excuse to regress Austin.

reply

I was not implying that her character was played by a 'fembot' or some other animatronic special effect, just that there is a huge difference between showing up for one or two days of shooting in order to help with a plot segue from married Austin to newly single Austin, and spending 5 or 6 days for 6 to 8 weeks or more filming a movie.

I think you are played by a fembot if you had to piss on that guy's joke like that.

reply

I think she was real, then one of Dr. Evil's henchmen kidnapped the real Vanessa and replaced her with a Fembot. Then when Basil tells Austin in the 2nd film that they knew all along, he means they only knew that the real Vanessa was replaced with a Fembot.

It's really not as complicated as people are making it out to be, it's just a funny moment in the movie, when Basil said they knew all along and Austin has that look on his face, it's just a funny moment in the movie, taking something so serious, not serious, it's been done in numerous films. Just coming onto the board for this movie I've noticed that a lot of people are digging way too deep into it.

There is Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery.

And then there's crap that followed Mike Myer's career down the drain.

Please leave discussion of those things for their respective boards.

reply

I think the general consensus during the making of International Man of Mystery was that the filmmakers didn't anticipate making any sequels so they had Austin marry Vanessa but still had Dr. Evil re-frozen instead of just killing him off. When this movie came out it didn't exactly rake in huge numbers, it was a moderate hit, but later found its audience and gained a cult status on cable and home video. So when they given the opportunity to make a sequel they decided it would be fitting, as a James Bond spoof, to get a new love interest but had to dispose of Vanessa to make room for Felicity Shagwell( Heather Graham).

My ignore list is quite large.

I think she got mad that Austin slept with Alotta Fagina, so then she went had had hot lesbo sex with Alotta Fagina, and then that turned her into a fembot.

At least that's what I choose to believe.
