He stole Dr. Evil from Dana Carvey

I was listening to a best of Dennis Miller radio broadcast and he had Dana Carvey on. Carvey did an impression of Lorne Michaels and Miller said he couldn't hold his tongue anymore and called out Mike Meyers for stealing Carvey's bit.

He said Dana Carvey was doing that voice for years before Dr. Evil and said it was a dead on rip-off off of Carvey. Carvey just chuckled and stayed on the high road. But Miller called Meyers on it and the truth should be known.

Meyers is a hack...

Dennis, Dana and Meyers worked on SNL together so yes I'm sure that Meyers had heard Dana do his Lorne Michaels impersonation, heck he may have even decided to use a variantion of it for Evil, but I doubt it. I believe what was happening there was that the two sounded rather similar so Dennis thought he would poke a little fun at Meyers and say he stole Carvey's bit. I'd be willing to bet he was laughing as he said it, wasn't he.

He's laughing when he says everything!

Are you kidding? Everybody who's ever been on that show does a Lorne Michaels impression.

Dr. Evil is based on Blofeld from You Only Live Twice.

Dr. Evil is based on many things, not just from one movie, either. Just watch Thunderball, for another example.

I don't hear it myself. Maybe a little bit in the inflections, but it sounds like a totally different voice to me

It's like Blofeld's mannerisms and way of speaking, having a cat and petting it, scar on the face, and so on. A LOT of it is based on Blofeld - however, as I said, Dr. Evil is based on _many_ things simultaneously, so it's not 100% replica of any one thing.
