Why Such a Low IMDB Rating?

This film only gets 4.3 on IMDB, but everyone I know who has seen it either likes it, or loves it. Granted, I didn't give it a 10, but it's at least a 6 or 7. Both Ebert & Siskel gave it thumbs up, and the normally serious Siskel even had very high praise for Voight's performance. Sure, it's hokey and impossible, but that's not the point. This isn't a National Geographic episode, it is a popcorn movie that tries to be fun and thrilling, and is a very successful one on that level.

Yah, I really don't get it either.

I mean, its obviously a B-rated creature feature BUT it has a GREAT cast, the effects are incredible for 1997 and its overall very fun.

Obviously this movie is no 8.0 or up but a 4.0-5.0 range? What the *beep*?

I don't quite get why people hate this movie so much. When I was younger it was one of my favorites (mainly because I love snakes, especially Anacondas)

Agree with both of the above posts. No, it isn't some great work of art, but it is great fun. When I think about movies that are "guilty pleasures" of mine, this one always ranks high on the list.

In ways, it is a great work of art.

The Cinematography is Oscar worthy, the Anaconda effects (mainly the animatronics) made for one of the most realistic movie monsters, the acting was all fine to excellent, marvelous atmosphere and prop techniques. It's really a shame this is voted so lowly but most of those were made years ago, probably by haters around the time it came out.

Yup. They killed off the only character I liked in this movie (Serone), and the ones I HATED the most lived! (Danny and Terri) Wow, Terri didn't even get injured! She's one of those incredible SUPER WOMEN. I also wanted that *beep* hood rat to die so bad. And then this guy Steven is busy DYING in his bed the whole time, but he randomly wakes up and is able to STAB Serone! WOW!

All in all, I hated the entire cast of this stupid movie, couldn't connect with a single one except Serone.

Rating it 1 is actually generous, because I would give it 0 points if I could.

I loved this movie and I still love it, it's a classic now and I'm really shocked with the low IMDB rating. I rate it 7.5 easily.
