Is it weird that Jon Voights role is the only one I find sympathetic?

Is it? I mean, he's the only one doing anything interesting acting wise, actually playing a character that has some color, as opposed to everyone else in the film. especially Ice Cube, jesus, I like him in movies like Friday, and I kinda liked him in Ghosts of Mars, but here, it was like he was acting like a parody of the "clichè black guy in a monster movie".

Jon Voight is incapable of a bad acting job. This is a minor role, but he handles it with the same professionalism he handled Joe Buck or any other role. He is never less than interesting. Someone else observed, and I agree, his is the only real performance in the film.

No, you're completely right. I hated everyone in this movie except him. Which means, this movie sucks balls.

I agree. He was bad in this. And his first line is "Today is a good day".... 

The only thing that isn't cliche about him in this film is that he survives.
