I don't think so. I don't see how people could expect anything better. It's fun for what it is, silly dumb entertainment. And the snake actually looks scary in many shots.

It worked out better than it had any reason being. Gloriously cheesy and topped off by one of the all-time great ham performances by Jon Voight. Should have nominated the guy for an Academy Award.
