question about the liberty rescue scene towards the end of the movie


when soldiers slide from liberty to afo, why don't they also bring a few parachutes with them? since they can only save one person at a time and are under time crunch, the people they can't save in time could at least be able to use some parachutes

Plus seawater, even in summer, is pretty cold. This movie took place in September (Michigan vs. Notre Dame football game).

Anybody ditching in the ocean would have probably 10 minutes before hypothermia became a deadly threat.


But yeah, the paratroopers probably should have brought extra parachutes. They would certainly bring one for the president, as a last-chance safety precaution if the cable transfer did not work.
