Parachuting from 15,000 at night time...

Wouldn't that be cold with only a shirt on?

reply

Yes

reply

It's cold at anytime of day as you increase altitude the air becomes much colder

reply

haha, yeah I thought so. It was the annoying shot of that 'the fax will work, Sir' woman smiling as she descended.

Yeah, but they're not gonna freeze. I'd be more worried about parachuting into the middle of nowhere in Kazakhstan.

reply

haha yeah that occurred to me too.

One day someone will be able to tell us what temp. it would be at 15,000 ft. at night time. Minus something I'd have thought.

reply

If its 59 at the surface then about 5.5 at 15000 feet. Over 25 below freezing

So, a bit nippy

reply

Definitely freezing; but you'd probably take that any time rather than stick around on the cargo deck waiting for the alternative.

reply

When they were doing the air rescue, why didn't they just send more parachutes over? Isn't the whole "two planes tethered together" idea much more dangerous?

reply

Not a bad point VV.

They probably could have sent some over and still exited via the cargo bay.

That forward exit would have been too dangerous...wings, jet engines etc

reply

They were already too low to attempt parachuting that's why.

and, rather more obviously, it was an assault unit on its way to deny a landing; they would not be carrying 25+ parachutes, just in case.

But really, this is just one small stupidity in a very - surprisingly so, given the director - stupid film, including the machine gun fights that don't down the plane and the satellite phone that not only works in the hold but regardless of the direction it's facing.

To me, the cold weather would be the least of my troubles. I kept thinking, where are those people going to land? On the ocean? Hostile territory? Did they understand the brief lesson of what to do with their parachute?
