A 'Stargate' Reboot May Finally Happen [Amazon]

MGM’s extensive film & TV catalogue, built over the past century, was the main driver behind Amazon’s $8.5B acquisition of the storied Hollywood studio. For the past year, since the deal closed in March 2022, Amazon Studios has been sifting through MGM’s library, identifying about a dozen initial titles for film and/or TV development, including Robocop, Stargate, Legally Blonde, Fame, Barbershop, The Magnificent Seven, Pink Panther and The Thomas Crown Affair.

Amazon has similar plans for Stargate. We hear both film and TV installments are considered, with a movie likely going first.

I'm keen. But they will fuck it up.

reply

No doubt. I feel like they're gonna dumb it down though.

This was one of the more "nerdy sci-fi shows". That's not a diss towards the show, loved it

Don't remember who said (but it was a while ago), they said that Sci-fi is written for "jocks" nowadays. I kinda agree a bit with that

Genuinely don't know a better way to describe it. Kinda like the Rick & Morty fandom maybe (I guess)

reply

I never saw it as high brow. Kinda the opposite. But it was fun. I don't want high concept, low effort. I want monster of the week vibes, mixed with a little undercurrent of continuity. I just want old school vibes with new-ish rules and a couple throwbacks. No need to reinvent the wheel.

We need people who are genuinely passionate about it. People who loved the OG.

None of that "I'm gonna make it my own thing". Sorry, but I genuinely hate that.

Also, I hope they completely embrace the Sci-fi nature of it all. None of that "sci-fi elelments'' BS

reply

They wonder why trying new shit fails. Cunt, cause you messed with a winning formula. I'll take an sg2.

This was one of the more "nerdy sci-fi shows".

This is why I never saw it. It seemed too nerdy for me. That's also why I never saw some of the Star Trek spinoffs.

I'm rewatching SG-1 right now and I love the characters, cast and sci-fi ideas and concepts portrayed.

The special FX are fine as they are, and I think a remake would be a dumb idea, as it would be for Babylon 5, another non-Trek favourite of mine.

reply

Yeah, a reboot is not necessary to be honest ...

reply

I don't think they can recapture the magic, but I'm willing to give it a chance coz I love the original.
