Buried Stargate?

What does a buried Stargate mean? I ask because funnily enough episode "New Ground" at the beginning we see them removing stones from the Stargate yet in "A hundred days" two episodes before "New Ground" the Stargate was buried yet they could still dial the gate.

So what does a buried Stargate mean?

reply

When they bury the gate it was suppose to halt incoming worm holes, however in a later episode they dial into a gate that is buried. Several places buried the gate and would not receive connection after that, I'm not sure it was ever explained why some would connect while buried and others would not.

The truth is out there. 

It's not really supposed to make sense. Just accept it.

But in "100 Days," there was only a natural iris over the gate. Nothing was interfering with the event horizon. So, they were able to do the same trick Sokar played on them. After a couple months of using this trick, they'd carved out enough of a hole to mount a rescue. And Teal'c just enough of a stubborn SOB to get the job done.

To effectively bury a stargate you have to have objects in the middle of the ring to prevent the creation of an event horizon. In "100 Days" the heat of the meteors melted all the stone/naquadah ore around the gate while it was open, so when it hardened it did not block the inside of the gate which then shut off.
