Interesting new member of SG-1 or annoying placeholder for Daniel Jackson?

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .
I loved Jonas and wished he could have stayed on as part of SG1 even after Daniel came back. He and Daniel may have filled the same "technical role" on the team, but the character/personality roles would have been different. By that season on the show Daniel had seen all and done all and was getting worn down a bit. To Jonas, everything was new and exciting still. I think he added an enthusiasm back to the show and breathed new breath back to the series. I also LOVED that Teal'c had another alien to pal around with. The addition of Jonas changed up the dynamic of the team in a season when it was needed.
I've always thought he should have stayed around to make it a five person team, like they had in later seasons
