Anyone else thinks...? (spoiler alert)

Anyone else thinks the show is somewhat homophobic?
Maybe I'm exaggerating, but after watching the entire show I realized that all the gay elements in the story are portrayed negatively: the gay club are all dragqueens and effeminate, Jason Cramer gets free with no remorse, and the "love story" between Beecher and Keller has a tragic end for both.
I don't know, tell me what you think.

What you're describing is a documentary.
Though I agree, reality is necessary; the main goals for TV shows are: making money and entertaining the audience. The best way to ensure that the show stays on, is creating characters which people can relate to, or at least hoping for someone to evolve.
That's the only reason to bear the atrocities commited by the prisoners, hoping for one tiny miracle.
The final episode just leaves a bitter taste, to say the least.

Very insightful!  It truly is a series "before it's time!" It can play now and still be quite topical and current! You have the prison situation, temp. housing of terrorists, relationships between inmates, etc.! 

I wouldn't use the word spectrum. Maybe scale or degrees? It makes sense but in general 'on the spectrum' is associated with autism. Too many people already treat any sexual orientation other than hetero like it is some kind of mental disability or disease that can be treated or medicated.

I get it and it makes sense to me, but the average homophobe will always look for anything to twist, especially the conversion therapy jackasses.

It's set in a prison... In the late 90s, so no. Even now prisons are like that.
