Hank seems out of character in "Dream Weaver" episode

I just watched the episode where Dale goes to the "Vocation Vacation" thing and takes Hank with him. Hank thinks they will be on a pit crew or learn how to decommission a submarine or something, but Dale tells him they will be weaving baskets.

Hank seems SO out of character here. The basket weaving thing sounds like something Bobby would do, so there's no way he would go along with it - yet there he was, learning how to make baskets and making a big impression.

And the reason for going to this thing was for Dale to learn some new job skills, but at the end he did some exterminating, and then taught exterminating for the "Vocation Vacation" program. So basically, the whole episode was pointless.

This episode was near the end of the run, so I think the the writers just got lazy and used some half-finished ideas they had laying around, and didn't care if Hank was out of character. Who knows?

Thoughts?

I thought that Hanks constant complaints about how much he didn't want to be there kept him 'in character'.

My take away was that while Dale didn't find a new vocation, he DID find a way to increase his earning power (which was what his wife had originally wanted) by charging people to come to Arlen and participate in his exterminating business as a 'vocation vacation'.

I actually thought the last season was a little stronger than some of the previous seasons, but overall I agree, they had done just about every story they could.

Disagree. His initial disstain for something that seemed feminine and uninteresting was replaced by a love for somethin that focused on following procedures, attending to detail, and relying on a wide range of tools. All things that he was nuts about. I thought it was spot on for his character.

Hank was more out of character in Church Hopping. Going to a different church just because his favorite spot got taken one measly week was so childish. Even for him.
