Abby's Reason for Being Mean

Abby tells Andie that the reason why she antagonizes the gang is because her life is really, extremely boring. As strange as this may sound I can kinda understand where she's coming from. When you're dying of boredom you'll do anything to keep yourself entertained. Fair enough. But then why didn't she just watch TV or something whenever she got extremely bored in her life & desperately needed to be entertained? Why not join the theater drama club at school or something? Surely there are better ways to keep one entertained than antagonizing a nice group of people. She's also incredibly lucky that they were a nice group of people. Her antics would not fly at all with most people; Abby knew who she could & couldn't troll.

I give the writers points for originality. A good majority of the time the bully in fiction bullies because they're insecure, jealous, or they have some deep, complex, sad backstory that had lead to them becoming a bully. Abby did it simply because she was extremely bored in her life existence & needed a thrill. It's simple, yet it works, and (at least to me IMHO) it still somewhat comes off as realistic.

I think, as much as she acted like the opposite, that she was just a miserable person who wanted everyone else to feel as lousy as her.
