Season 6 is so good!

I've never related to Buffy as a character so much before until this rewatch. When I was younger I would gloss over the scenes where she was 'shut down' or upset during s6. But now I really appreciate them being an adult in the real world. Sarah portrays this flawlessly throughout, still using humour to hide her pain in some scenes, where other times she just looks bored.

I can really appreciate Buffy & Willow's paralleled descents into their darkest times. At the end of Smashed, Willow's breakdown is so touching.

I thought it was pretty ridiculous when I first watched that Tony Head left for most of season 6, but then came back for so much in season 7, however his presence gone really allowed for the exploration of the tough times for Buffy.

I also noticed there was a few times in earlier season 6 where Buffy almost got the chance to open up about her depression and was cut down, ala Tabula Rusa before they lost their memories, or Amy interrupting Buffy about to open up to Willow in Smashed.

I didn't even enjoy Normal Again until this time, previously thinking it was a rip off of Charmed/Smallville or more accurately just lazy rehash, but I can see that its an important part of Buffy's recovery to choose to live in this world.

Season 6 is seriously underrated. I'm up to Entropy in my rewatch now, and I always enjoyed these last 5 episodes. This may be my favourite season of Buffy now. Some other good things that I've loved:

- Once More with Feeling (entire episode)
- Buffy's hair being brown for most of the season, then at the end of As you were she breaks up with Spike and walks out with blonder hair, things finally looking up for Buffy. I wonder if having Sarah be brown hair for the season with depression was deliberate.
- Tara, such a good character in season 6
- Dawn being neglected I can appreciate more how she reacts to things. Buffy was fairly awful to Dawn.
- Xander leaving Anya. They definitely weren't meant to be. Everything that was wrong with their relationship was summed up well by Hali. Anya deserved to be appreciated for her quirkyness, not verbally bashed for it. 'tonights episode of go money go' LOL
- End scene of Tabula Rusa is very well done.
- I love the casual use of magic Willow does for the first ten episodes. Each episode has Willow displaying some sort of magic that highlights how powerful she has become.
- Willow & Giles scene in Flooded
- Buffy's using of Spike. Very realistic relationship and happens all the time in real life (minus the vampire/slayer part)
- The nerds are annoying, however they aren't nearly as prominent as I remember.

Why isn't there any shows as good as Buffy on TV anymore!

The unexpected is the new cliche ~

I love Season 6 too. My only issues with it are that the nerds annoy me (mostly Andrew really), Dark Willow wasn't done nearly as well as she should've been, Dawn is more irrelevant in 6 than any other season, and Xander leaving Anya at the altar- idiot!
It's also sad how horrible all the scoobies lives are and their relationships but that's the whole point of Season 6 so I appreciate the storytelling. Like i hate that Spike tried to rape Buffy but it was a catalyst for him to go get a soul.
At least everyone gets better in Season 7.

Also, I just wanted to tell you OP that you should watch Ash vs. Evil Dead. I also love Salem, AmericanHorrorStory and Scream Queens but Ash vs. Evil Dead is the only show that comes close to replacing the void that Buffy and Angel left. It is a lot like Buffy/Angel in that there's a rag tag team like the scoobies fighting evil. It's a million times more gory than Buffy/Angel ever was, and it doesn't have the drama or romance but it is so bad ass and perfectly combines horror/action/comedy like BtVS.

Seconded, Ash vs. Evil Dead is awesome and so worth a watch!

I agree, Season 6 is a master-piece. Similarly I didn't really relate to the season until watching again when I was older and going through a tough time and could really connect to it.

So many great episodes like Smashed, Wrecked, Normal Again, Dead Things... And those last four episodes are probably the best TV ever.

I agree the Trio are annoying, but the whole point of the season was that the Big Bad was LIFE itself. I don't think it would have worked with a conventional Big Bad as well.

Rewatching now you appreciate some things with maturity you missed before but I still think s6 whilst dramatically strong is rather downbeat.

Well , I was in high school as the show started. I didn't 'get' season 4 until I myself went to college, and re watched it a few years after the fact. Same with season 6. Once you get out in the big bad world, and life itself kicks your ass a bit, then you start to relate to season 6 more. I love season 6. Life itself is the big bad of the season

It's a dark depressing TV masterpiece! It's the season I was done with the fastest, it only took me like a week because I just had to see what would happen next! Still, S5 is my overall favorite

I love Season 6 as well. I didn't like it much when it originally aired, but I've grown to appreciate it more over time. In fact, I think Season 6 is the one I re-watch the most. I like the dark, angsty, grittiness of it and the adult themes. The Buffy/Spike storyline, although abusive from both stand points, was so complex and layered, and both characters went through massive development.

Agreed. I can understand why some didn't like it. You'd expect the typical mix between comedy, drama, action, romance and supernatural. Season 6 was mostly drama, but it was HBO-level drama, IMO.
