Why make your lives so damn complicated? There are actual active Buffy forums out there that are 100% about Buffy and nothing else.

reply

It's really not that complicated. I'm not interested in finding just any message board to discuss Buffy on; I want to come to this board, this community, to discuss Buffy. And the same goes for the boards here that I frequent; some of which I find overlap of regular posters, making it an even more expansive online community. It's not a matter of discussing a specific topic, but the people we want to discuss it with.

I understand what you mean. I feel the same. That's why I'm plugging for the Bronze. It was one of the original Buffy messageboards. I'd love to see it revitalized. The posters and topics on this board are the closest to that board I've ever found.

I'm creating a message for the Bronze regarding the IMDb boards. Then I will post here, inviting people to check it out. I'm using some of the posters' thread topics/discussions on my post to the Beta. (You might recognize more than a few...  )

And I understand that. However what I'm seeing here is at least 3 different forums where you guys are plugging. If you don't decide on one, you will all end up at different boards and then this community you are trying to keep, will be gone.

Between the IMDb2, yours and the Bronze board someone is suggesting...decide on one.

Done.

The admin for this new board said in another suggestion thread I started that if a suggested board gets at least 12 votes, they'll create that board. We're at 5, so we're not too far off from getting a Buffyverse board we can migrate to. Get out the vote!

We've actually had several people not from our bunch posting their support or posting in the thread. I think we're above 5 now?

Anyway, I vote for IMDb2. The Bronze just isn't disciplined enough in terms of having threads and sections. And I actually like being able to flit around to different topics and fandoms all on the same board, just as I do here.

And all the other Buffy forums are 90% discussion about the comics and people who try to explain the series and characterizations through the lens of what happened in the comics, which is just... unpleasant. The main board I used to post on (BuffyForums--in its heyday it was as intelligent and balanced as this forum) got hijacked by an unhinged poster called MikeB (whose posts look suspiciously similar to Mike Stevens'), though it was already failing after the exodus caused by season 8.

If you follow the link I posted in the OP, you can find the poll tally at the top of the thread; and it's still at 5. Mind you, this is www.thegotboard.com which they've dubbed the IMCForum; not to be confused with IMDB v2, which is almost identical (probably on account that they're both made through Proboards.com, this one just happens to have a direct URL somehow. My guess is someone paid for an upgrade.)

I'm leaning more towards the IMCForum, as it has a few things that aren't necessarily huge pluses, but are still nice touches that make it more inviting. For starters the admin actually created a section for suggestions and invited people to post and create polls to gauge interest in what boards would be popular; and then set metrics for which suggestions he'll make dedicated boards for - any suggestion that received 12 votes. Whereas the admin on IMDB v2 is already talking about deleting some of the existing forums there that haven't shown extensive activity so far (which seems premature, since it's barely been a week since IMDB's announcement, and there are invariably stragglers still favoring coming here for as long as possible). I haven't seen much indication yet of accepting input on new dedicated forums on IMDB v2. Even the name is contentious for practical reasons, even among people who appear to be more involved in developing the boards; because they know it could be a targeted for backlash by IMDB. While IMCF copied the color scheme, it's set itself apart in web address and moniker. It also has a search engine, whereas on IMDB v2 I had to hunt for the thread you started; and I still couldn't find it in a general perusal of the Suggestion Box (I must have overlooked it somehow, or something) and had to use my posting history to bring it up.
